Gown Alert: Monique Lhuillier Sample Sale

It's that time of the year ladies! One of our favorites, Monique Lhuillier, will be having their semi-annual sample sale next Sunday, July 14th from 10am to 4pm.  The sale will be at a pop-up shop in downtown LA.  They’ll have both Bridal and Ready to Wear dresses with markdowns anywhere from 40% - 90%.  Can you imagine the savings?!?!

This is the perfect opportunity for brides, friends and family to find not only incredible gowns but ready to wear items as well for showers, bachelorette parties and even the rehearsal!

This sale only happens twice a year so we definitely suggest avoiding that July heat and heading downtown to check it out next weekend!  Make a day of it and start with brunch or head to lunch after, enjoy some champagne or lemonade and prepare to get your shop on!

Happy Shopping!

Featured Wedding: Jessica + David at Saint Sophia's Cathedral & Vibiana

Jessica and David tied the knot on October 20, 2012 in a stunning ceremony at Saint Sophia Cathedral followed by a beyond beautiful reception at one of our favorite venues, Vibiana.
It was a gorgeous autumn day – cool, crisp and a bit cloudy.  The Bride, dressed in a Lazaro gown and Christian Louboutin heals could not have been more stunning.  Her Hugo Boss clad Groom looked so handsome (and smelled amazing, trust me on this one J).  In the morning as they got ready they exchanged vows via messenger.  This sweet and intimate gesture seemed to bring a sense of calm to both of them.
Jessica and David are a very traditional couple who decided to forgo the popular “first look” and waited until Jessica walked down the isle to see each other for the first time.  Time seemed to stand still when David first saw his Bride standing at the end of the ilse with her father.  The opulence and splendor of SaintSophia’s was the perfect setting for their traditional Coptic Orthodox ceremony.

After the ceremony the Bride and Groom escaped to the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles before heading to Vibiana for photos.  This photo session was a great opportunity for Jessica and David to spend some time together, just the two of them, basking in the joy of their matrimony.  Rebecca with Docuvitae captured the most beautiful shots of this happy couple – don’t they just ooze happiness?!

Vibiana was adorned with whimsical décor including stunning florals by Shawna Yamamto Event Design, vintage furniture, gold accents and amazing lighting.

In lieu of a Sweetheart Table, the Happy Couple enjoyed their own intimate lounge area just under the Vibiana alter.  It was georgeous, luxurious and cozy all at the same time!

Guests sipped Champagne as they dined on culinary delights prepared by Jay’s Catering.  The savory dishes were matched by the delicious dessert bar and wedding cake also prepared by Jay’s.

The evening was lively and filled with love, laughter and dancing!  A surprise performance by Jilliana’s SahlalaDancers really got the party going.  Guests danced into the early morning hours and finished off the amazing night by doing The Macarena!

We feel so honored to have been a part of this amazing day.  Cheers to a lifetime of love and laughter Mr. & Mrs. Gobrial!

Bold, Chic & In Love: The Suit

Let's be honest. The wedding is THE big day. But the week or two after that you spend on your honeymoon are true bliss. Happiness, all you can eat after dieting for months, and no one around but your significant other. In my dreams, this is all happening at an amazing hotel, on a hut over the ocean (in Bora Bora to be exact, if I am really dreaming). As far as packing goes, the one thing you will definitely want to bring are some amazing and sexy bathing suits!

Here are some of my favorite suits for honeymooning this summer:

1. The Abbie Triangle Top from Victoria's Secret
This one comes in many colors and patterns. Great for the flatter chested girls!

2. Viona in Fatal Charm from A Che
The top on this one gives full coverage, which is perfect for busts of all shapes!

3. Plunge Monokini from Victoria's Secret
This suit is extremely sexy without having to be totally bare.

4. Leopard-print Wrap Monokini from Victoria's Secret
I never knew these existed! If any of you rock this, you must send us a photo!

5. Natalie One-Piece from Anthropologie
I personally own this suit. Being a busty, curvy girl I have to say I have never enjoyed being in a bathing suit. Until I got this one. It is so flattering, so sexy and everything is covered! Absolutely perfect.

6. Firm Control Convertible Dress One-Piece from Victoria's Secret
This is an amazing suit. The tie can drape down to have a skirt effect. Great for a pair shape that wants to cover up their legs, yet still sexy on top.

7. Bombshell Halter Top from Victoria's Secret
I love this one! So cute, great coverage, and extra sexy by adding two cups in the push-up.

8. Farrah Push Up in Topaz from A Che
Another fun, full coverage choice. Love the turquoise!

With suits like these, I see a confident, sexy you lying somewhere on the beach out there with your lucky man!

Bold, Chic & In Love: Getting Ready Outfit

Every single bit of your big day should be new and exciting! Why not plan out what you will be wearing as you get ready to slip into your gorgeous dress. Not to mention, the photographers will most likely be shooting you getting ready, so might as well look fashionably beautifully at all times.

I've put together a few items you should consider for your big day. Cute but comfortable are key here. Victoria's Secret has an entire line of clothing for brides as they are getting ready!

1. Velour Bling Hoodie by Juicy
2. Bridal Graphic Tee by Victoria's Secret
3. Chiffon Robe by Betsey Johnson
4. Bridal Graphic Tank Top by Victoria's Secret
5. Cozy Fleece Ribbon Slipper by Victoria's Secret
6. Bridal Robe by Victoria's Secret
7. Bridal Hoodie by Victoria's Secret
8. Five Star Fleece Pant by Juicy

It is almost mandatory that you get a cute outfit to get ready and take photos in. My favorite is the Betsey Johnson robe. If you have some amazing getting ready clothes that I didn't post, I'd love to see them! Email me at jocelyn@sterlingengagements.com.

Bold, Chic and in Love: Vera or Monique?

Recently I was able to assist a stylist for the cover of the September issue of the Knot Magazine. It was a ten look shoot on couture wedding gowns. Needless to say, I was absolutely dying! All the dresses were far more beautiful then I could possibly describe, not to mention that they were being worn by a perfectly stunning model. I also got to play with some of the most beautiful (and expensive) wedding rings I had ever seen!

Naturally, of all the designers that we had there were two that really stood out to me- Vera Wang & Monique Lhuillier. Two of the most well-known wedding gown designers, who design to perfection but are so different in style and technique. Monique creates beautiful, feminine dresses that are heavily textured. Vera is equally stunning, also beautiful yet often pushes the envelope with her designs.  They have that extra bit of sass oftentimes.

While we can admire both designers, there must be one that makes you squeal a little louder! Are you more a Monique or Vera bride?

Here are some of the looks for each designers spring 2012 line.

All photos courtesy of Vera Wang & Monique Lhuillier
While all designer gowns are lovely and do come with a price tag for a designer label, they can at least provide great inspiration for what you look for!  However, they do have some simpler gowns that start at a more moderate number.  For example, Monique Lhuillier's gowns start as low as $2200.  Also Vera's new White Collection at David's Bridal makes a Vera Wang gown affordable for various price points and budgets too.

I must admit, I'm definitely a Monique girl myself ;), what are you?

If you ever want a stylists opinion on your dress, feel free to email me at jocelyn@sterlingengagements.com.

Bold, Chic and in Love: Bridesmaid Dresses for Spring

Last time we discussed the perfect strapless bridesmaid dresses for this spring. Today we are covering the rest of your options. We have some beautiful shades and styles for your ladies to strut down the aisle in!

Here are some colorful, fun spring options for your maids:

Photos courtesy of Nordstrom, Bloomingdales & Kate Spade

1. Rosette One Shoulder by BCBCMAXAZRIA
The draping in front of this rose dress is extremely flattering on any body type, as it is slightly hugging the right parts of the body to give off a very feminine shape. Love the embellished strap for spring!

2. Audrey by BCBGMAXAZRIA
This dress is beautifully simple. Similar yet so different from option one. This is for the bride who is more clean cut and traditional. I love this dress for the more type-A bride.

3. Sleeveless Pleated Chiffon Dress by Maggy London
This orange is absolutely stunning. The chiffon layers are very playful.  The right belt can make this dress very flattering. I would opt for a gold metallic belt over brown to make it a bit dressier.

4. Dotted Chandler Romper by Kate Spade
Who doesn't love polka dots? This dress is for the fun couple that is doing everything a little different. This spring we are going to see many brides choosing non-traditional dresses for their bridesmaids. It is becoming very popular to let your bridesmaids personalities show through their dress- polka dots versus plain make a very different statement!

5. Lavender Label Organza Dress by Vera Wang
This is bridesmaid chic. I love the color, simplicity and yet fashion-forward style of this dress. It is a daring choice!

6. One Shoulder Metal Taffeta Dress by BCBGMAXAZRIA
Another dress very similar to option one, yet extremely different. This form fitting, metallic dress with the rose on the shoulder is for the sexy bride. This is very Sex in the City.

7. One Shoulder Ruched Chiffon Dress by Monique Lhuillier
This option is appropriate for many different ages, yet the blue makes it much more fun! The cinched waist makes it a very flattering option.

8. Heritage Matte Jersey Dress by Halston
Although you aren't typically supposed to wear white to a wedding, this color hue is becoming more and more popular. Adding a beautiful, colorful bouquet of flowers will make your alter absolutely pop! This dress is flattering, simple, and chic. Dress it up with a colorful pump or statement necklace!

9. One Shoulder by Cut25
This yellow is so fun! Spring weddings should be bright and beautiful, which makes this dress absolutely perfect! Another dress that is easy to dress up with the right bouquet or statement necklace. The yellow can demand its own attention though, making it a very simple dress.

I am confident that your bridesmaids will look perfectly styled for a beautiful spring or summer wedding! If you have any questions on how to choose the right dress, feel free to email me at jocelyn@sterlingengagements.com

Bold, Chic, and in Love: Color Block

Next Tuesday marks the first official day of Spring, even though in Los Angeles it often feels like spring's year-round. Nonetheless, it is time to put away your black and gray clothing and bring out the color!

This season is all about color blocking. At some point this spring you will need a great dress to wear.  I am thinking bridal shower, but I know the opportunities for a great dress are endless, with all the congratulatory dinners and parties you will attend. Why not rock one of these beautiful, springy, colorful looks?

Photos courtesy of Nordstroms and Bloomingdales
1- Maggy London Two Tone Sleeveless Jersey Dress from Nordstroms
I am obsessed with this dress. Extremely obsessed. So much that I had to I have both colors on the board- green/blue and pink/orange. It is everything- flattering, feminine, sexy, perfect for spring, great color block, and beautiful colors. This is the perfect dress for anyone with curves. I would maybe do some bangles and a nude heel with this one. So beautiful on its own, it won't take much to dress up.  This dress is perfect for a bridal shower or rehearsal dinner.

2- Yelena Strappy by Sam Edelman from Bloomingdales
Just in case you want to go all out, I thought I'd add this color block heel from Sam Edelman. Being a nude based shoe, it would be easy to pair these with so many of these dresses. Plus another wine, it's not an incredibly big heel so they would be extremely comfortable.

3- Tamika Color Block Koto Crepe Dress by Diane Von Furstenberg from Nordstroms
I am a sucker for a sweetheart dress. Therefore I was automatically attracted to this color block dress by DVF.  I find this cut can be very flattering on a busty girl with a small waist. Shows off your curves in the best way. I'd wear this one with pink heels.

4- Norwood Color Block Sweater Dress by MARC BY MARC JACOBS from Bloomingdales
In true Marc fashion, this dress is perfect. Love the colors, love the blue sleeves. I would pair some big, bright bangles and a camel shoe with this dress. Very light and summery.

5- Elizabeth and James Stripe Mock Two Piece Dress from Nordstroms
This dress combines many of my favorite things- stripes, black, and color blocking. Even with so many colors going on, it's a very classy and simple dress. Easy to wear, flattering, beautiful colors. I would wear this one with any pump that matches one of the stripes. No necklace necessary, as the bow and stripes takes enough of the attention.

6- Presley Skye Belted Colorblock Silk Dress from Nordstroms
This is a very simple, clean choice. This dress will absolutely flatter and accentuate your waist. I would make this one a bit more fun with a heel that pops, like bright orange or sequined shoe. This isn't the boldest color block, which can be perfect for those who don't wear a ton of color.

7- Hopper House Little Shyla by Kate Spade from Bloomingdales
This clutch is the perfect spring clutch, I absolutely love the orange and pink- so bright, colorful, and bold! If the color block dresses are too much for you, pair this clutch with a simple, single toned dress and you will still be making a statement!

8. Adrianna Papell Colorblock Jersey Dress from Nordstroms
This dress is great for your body if it tends to be more pear shaped. If your waist is your favorite part of your body,  this dress will accentuate it beautifully. I would do a statement necklace with this dress, however you can just as easily choose to keep it simple. Again, I'd do a nude heel, unless I could fine a pump that matches one of the colors. That would be ah-mazing.

9- Elizabeth and James 'Sadie' Drape Panel Dress from Nordstroms
This is such a feminine dress, I absolutely love it. Love the blue color block. Another dress that doesn't need too much jewelry and would pair perfectly with a nude heel.

10-BCBGMAXAZRIA Colorblock Knit Dress from Nordstroms
This is a very form fitting, sexy choice. Being that it is made of spandex, it is definitely meant to show off your curves. The black makes it slimming, but the turquoise and gold make it fabulous and fun. This is a great dress for dinner with your fiancee, or your last single night with the ladies.

You will be beautiful, bold, and bright in any of these fabulous dresses. Have any questions about how to style these dresses? Email me at jocelyn@sterlingengagements.com

Bold, Chic, and in Love: Oscar Favorites

This past Sunday was one of the most magical days of the year- The Academy Awards. For a lot of people, this day means seeing the movies and actors they love win for their absolute talent and excellence. For me, the best part is obviously the red carpet.

I used to work for a celebrity stylist who has dressed just about every celebrity in the business. You can only imagine how much I enjoyed this time of year, running around Hollywood to pick up the most beautiful gowns that Oscar nominees would wear. It was fabulous! And it educated me with the names and styles of designers who also make so many of the beautiful gowns that are great for the more formal wedding.  Gowns for your bridesmaids, mother, and most importantly, yourself!

My personal favorites were absolutely Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford and Pharrell Williams in Lanvin. Gwyneth was a vision in white- so classy, so pure, so beautiful. And Pharrell looked extra dapper and fresh in his over-sized velvet bow-tie.

Tina Fey looked beautiful in Carolina Herrera. Apparently, Herrera was only going to let one actress wear her designs this year and Tina was the winner! This dress is simple and chic. I love the peplum, which has the tendency to make any dress extremely flattering. Great choice for your bridesmaids!

Maria Menounos was stunning in a Maria Lucia Hohan gown. If I were ever a bridesmaid, I would not complain about this dress! I love the corset fit paired with the mint chiffon. It is a very feminine, delicate choice.

Oh Viola Davis, aren't you just the prettiest? This green Vera Wang was the absolute best choice for her. Her green makeup and beautiful skin paired very well with the dress. She was absolutely glowing. But honestly ladies, who doesn't look good in Vera Wang?

Jennifer, Jennifer.. you curvy beauty. She looked gorgeous in Zuhair Murad. This dress was so flattering and stunning, I'd love to meet the woman who would rock this as her wedding dress!!

Who else was absolutely thrilled that Meryl finally won an Oscar? I have been rooting for her for years. She is amazing. I loved her dress, so sparkly and fun. Just like I pictured her to be :) I'm sure there's a mom out there planning the perfect black tie wedding with her daughter or son, that would absolutely love to wear this Lanvin dress for the big day. As long as the brides dress is a little more sparkly, of course!
